MATHEW WAGNER - Sunday, October 21, 2012
Mikkel Diskerud and Rosenborg climbed into first place with a win over Sandnes Ulf, while Josh Gatt started at right back for the first time this season for Molde.
Rosenborg Trondheim 2 - 0 Sandnes Ulf
Returning from injury, Mikkel Diskerud played the full 90 minutes in Rosenborg's win over Sandnes Ulf that sent the team to the top of the Tippeligaen.
After a sloppy first 30 minutes, Rosenborg turned it on and started to press Sandnes Ulf for a goal. The team finally got that goal just before halftime, when a Sandnes defender handed a pass in the box. Rosenborg's Borek Dockal stepped up and put his team in front in the 43rd minute.
Following the goal, Rosenborg returned to its sloppy play from the beginning of the match, which continued until late. In the 82nd minute, Mikael Dorsin iced the match for Rosenborg, when he stepped up unmarked in the box, collected a pass from John Chibuike and fired home from 13 yards out.
With the win, Rosenborg leapfrogged Molde for first place on goal differential, and those two teams face off next Sunday for Norwegian supremacy.
Hønefoss BK 0 - 0 Stabӕk IF
Steve Clark and Hønefoss pushed late for a goal but waited too long in a dull, scoreless tie with relegated-destined Stabӕk Sunday.
The first half had little action, with the best chance coming from a Franck Boli header that was easily saved by Clark. In the second half, Hønefoss had a multitude of chances, but many of the shots went wide or were saved by Stabӕk goalkeeper Mande Sayouba.
With the tie, Hønefoss dropped to 10th place with 32 points. The team returns to action next Sunday against Odd Grenland.
Strømsgodset IF Drammen 1 - 1 Molde FK
For the first time this year, Josh Gatt started at right back for Molde, but the defending Norwegian champions couldn't hold off a determined Strømgodset in the tie Sunday.
Gatt only played the first half for Molde before being substituted out for the normal starter at right back, Martin Linnes. Gatt also recorded his third yellow card of the season in his 45 minutes of action, meaning he will miss next Sunday's match against Rosenborg.
From the start, Molde seemed content to bunker down defensively and use the counterattack, and it worked to perfection- with a little help- in the 14th minute. Strømsgodset defenders Lars Vilsvik and Kim Madsen collided on a long pass, which Jo Inge Berget picked up and slid past goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey.
After the goal, Molde returned to its original tactics, allowing Strømsgodset to own the possession. Berget had another chance to double Molde's lead right before halftime, but after taking a touch around Kwarasey, his angle to the net was too acute to make a legitimate shot on net.
Determined to get a goal, Strømsgodset poured forward in the second half and had many chances to tie. Finally, in the 90th minute, Strømsgodset got that goal, when Ola Kamara headed a free kick across the box to Jarl Storbӕk. Storbӕk took a step back and fired with his left foot into the top of the net.
Because of the tie, Molde fell into second place on goal differential. The team faces Rosenborg, its main title rival, next Sunday at home.
Bӕrum SK 4 - 1 Kongsvinger IL
Sebastian Troupe and Bӕrum scored four unanswered goals to beat Kongsvinger Sunday but couldn't hold off sealing relegation.
Bӕrumm needed the win and some help in order to stave off relegation, but it didn't act like it from the start. Kongsvinger's Magnus Solum put his team ahead in the 15th minute, when Elias Valderhaug sent a through ball that put Solum alone on net. The winger didn't miss.
It took some time for Bӕrum to find the equalizer, and it came in the form of the penalty in the 40th minute. Amahl Pellegrino was taken down in the box, and Lars Sandbu stepped up to convert.
In the first minute of stoppage time, Pellegrino gave Bӕrum the lead it would never relinquish with a circus shot from a Rozhat Shaswari pass.
Bӕrum carried the momentum it had from the end of the first into the second, and with two goals in three minutes, Bӕrum put the game away. In the 57th minute, Sandbu curled a 25-yard free kick past Valderhaug, and in the 60th minute, Erblin Llullaku met a Snadbu corner and sent it into the back of the net.
Despite the win and jumping into 14th place, Bӕrum will be relegated into the Norwegian third tier, as both Hødd and Strømmen maintained a 12-point lead over Bӕrum with three matches to go. The team returns to action next Sunday against Notodden.
Tromsdalen UIL 1 - 2 Ullensaker/Kisa IL
Kenneth di Vita Jensen and Ullensaker/Kisa helped their promotion push with a big road on the road at Tromsdalen Sunday.
After going back and forth for much of the first half, Tromsdalen managed to take the lead in the 42nd minute, thanks to a Kjell Vangen 28-yard free kick, but that lead didn't last long. Ullensaker/Kisa's Truls Jørstad tied up the match, with di Vita Jensen sending in a cross for the assist.
In the second half, Ullensaker/Kisa pressured Tromsdalen's defense by forcing six corners in the first 19 minutes of the half, and it paid off on the last one. A clearance from the sixth corner ended up with Viktor Adebahr, who sent a rocket into the back of the net from 28 yards away.
The visitors held on from there, picking up the three points. With the win, Ullensaker/Kisa moved to one point out of a promotion playoff spot, and the team returns to action nexy Sunday against Hødd.
American forward Chad Barrett made Vålerenga's bench but did not play in the team's 3-1 loss to Aalesund Sunday.
Both Rhett Bernstein and Kyle Helton didn't make Mjøndalen's lineup in the team's 3-0 loss to Hødd Sunday.
Villyen Bijev did not feature for Start in its 1-0 win over Sandefjord Sunday.
Brendan King missed Alta's 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Sarpsborg 08 Sunday.
