Bryan Gerzicich went the full 90 for Ironi Kiryat Shmona as the defending champs claimed three points in their attempt to get back into position to repeat.
Ironi Kiryat Shmona 1 - 0 Hapoel Acre
Bryan Gerzicich and the defending champions got a vital home win against fourth place Hapoel Acre on the back of solid defense and a precise counterattack that proved to be the difference.
The back and forth affair saw excellent saves in the first half by both goalkeepers with the defense of each team the strong point as the score remained 0-0 at the break.
The second half saw more attacking play from the desperate Blue Lions, not willing to settle for another draw at home.
The hard work came to fruition in the 87th minute when Sintiyahu Salalik found himself alone at the back post and calmly tapped in the cross from striker Ravid Gazel. Salalik's first goal, against his former team, could not have come at a better time for the hosts, breaking their nine game winless streak.
Ironi Kiryat Shmona moved into seventh place with the victory and remain in the hunt for the Israeli league title.
Gerzicich and company next welcome Sparta Prague in Europa League action on November 11th and will be looking to avenge a 3-1 thrashing late last month.
Leo Krupnik did not play in Maccabi Netanya's 2-1 win over Hapoel Tel Aviv. Netanya christened their new stadium with a win in the highly competitive Tel Aviv Derby.
Ryan Adeleye is still looking for his first game action and did not feature in Be'er Sheva's 1-1 draw against second place Ashdod.
