BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, January 14, 2013
US U-20 head coach Tab Ramos today named a 20 player roster for a camp to be played in Puebla, Mexico just weeks before World Cup qualifying.

The roster consists only of North American based players as the European based players are currently with their clubs. The tournament is being held in Puebla as it is the same city where World Cup qualifying will be held and it will allow the US team to become familiar with the environment.

The US team is lead by Real Salk Lake midfielder Luis Gil who has been one of the best American players of his age group for years. Last season he broke firmly into the starting lineup for Salt Lake and his presence in central midfield is crucial to the US team's success. Also in midfield, Will Trapp has been an important player for Ramos and the Ohio native recently signed a homegrown contract with Columbus.

At forward, the US team will be lead by the Galaxy's Jose Villarreal and Santos Laguna's Daniel Cuevas who have been consistent players during this past cycle.

One notable absence for the US team is Santos Laguna winger Benji Joya who was not released by his club. Last season the Bay Area native broke into the club's first team and has been regularly training with them to start 2013.

The camp will open on Monday and run through January 22. During the camp, the US will play Panama twice in closed door friendlies on January 19 and January 21.

Why Cuevas release for this qualifying and not Bejin Joya, both play for Santos Laguna, ummm is it that Mexico U20 has his site on him.
