RECAP: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 3 - 0 FC NÜRNBERG
EXTRA TIME
SCOTT PETERSON - Monday, January 28, 2013
Timothy Chandler went the distance in a losing effort for Nuremberg Friday night falling to reigning champions Borussia Dortmund.

Chandler, who was subbed off during last week's tie versus Hamburg after taking a ball to the face, recovered in time to make his 19th start in as many matches.

Dortmund only needed 18 minutes to get on the board, as Nuremberg defender Timo Gebhardt brought down Polish winger Jakob Blaszczykowski in the box. Blaszczykowski then stepped up and converted from the spot himself for the 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later the Pole added a second as Mario Götze beat defender Javier Pinola on the right flank to send in a low cross to Blaszczykowski, who converted easily from the spot.

With the result of the match a mere formality, Dortmund added a third in the 80th minute, as Marco Reus played a square ball for Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker, who had missed two chances earlier in the match and had a goal disallowed, buried his third chance for the final 3-0 score.

Up next for Chandler and Nuremberg is a Sunday affair at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Notes

Steven Cherundolo missed his second match in a row due to injury, this time missing Hannover's 2-1 victory of northern rivals VfL Wolfsburg.

Fabian Johnson hurt his knee in practice on Thursday, which kept him out of Hoffenheim's 2-1 loss to Frankfurt. Johnson is expected to return to practice on Tuesday. Daniel Williams was an unused substitute for Hoffenheim.

Jermaine Jones served the final game of a three-match ban, a 0-0 versus Augsburg, for whom Michael Parkhurst made the bench for the first time; Parkhurst did not get any playing time.
