Carlos Bocanegra and Racing Santander picked up a vital win at Sporting Gijón on Saturday.

Racing Santander 2 Sporting Gijón 1

After falling behind 1-0 on a David Rodriguez in the 17th minute, Racing came back and scored two unanswered goals in the second half to claim their first victory since January 5th. Both goals were scored by substitutes, which surely helps Manager's Jose Aurelio Gay case as some fans have been calling for his firing.

In the 77th minute, Jairo Samperio leveled the match for Racing with his fifth goal of the season. Then, just five minutes later, Mamadou Koné put the visitor's ahead and in line for the win. Bocanegra also picked up a yellow card in the 69th minute for a hard tackle just outside the 18 yard box.

Racing remains in last place in the Segunda División but puts them now only one point behind Xerez and two behind Hércules. They are five points shy of the relegation zone completely.

They'll next host Huesca, who sit in 18th position and beat Real Murcia 2-0 this week.

Notes

Oguchi Onyewu was an unused substitute as Málaga tied with Real Zaragoza 1-1. They travel to Levante next Saturday.
