Steven Silva Rodrigues once again played the full ninety minutes for Leixoes in a crucial road victory over last-place Freamunde.
Freamunde 0-2 Leixoes
Leixoes moved up to fourth place in the Portuguese second division with a solid 2-0 over Freamunde, only two points out of a promotion spot.
The hosts nearly opened the scoring in the 25th minute, when Christophe's dipping blast hit the crossbar, but instead Cale put Leixoes up 1-0 in the 30th minute.
The sequence began when a long punt from Rui Sacramanto was corralled by Tiago Borges, who then played a perfectly-weighted ball into Cale's path in the box for a one-touch goal.
Borges doubled the guests' advantage just a minute before the break. After a clever exchange on the sideline, the winger scored from a tight angle with the outside of his foot, though it is debatable whether it was meant as a shot or a cross.
Steven played a largely solid shift, though a 60th-minute giveaway nearly led to a goal, with only a superb save from Rui Sacramento keeping out a long-range drive from Bock.
Leixoes will continue their promotion fight at home against Santa Clara on 2/10.
Caleb Patterson-Sewell was in the 18 but did not feature as Setubal was overpowered by title hopefuls Benfica 3-0. Sergio Duarte, on the other hand, did not even dress for Nacional's 2-1 defeat to cellar-dwelling Moreirense.
Tony Taylor was on the bench for the opening 76 minutes of Estoril's matchup with Pacos de Ferreira on Monday before the game was suspended due to visibility issues with 14 minutes remaining and the score tied 0-0 due to a rare snowstorm. The match will be completed at a later date.
