DAVID SMITH - Tuesday, February 19, 2013
Charles Kazlauskas put in a short shift for Helmond on Monday evening, playing the first half before exiting due to illness in the team's draw at home against de Graafschap Doetinchem.

The visitors were first on the board in the 17th minute, after Vlatko Lazic fired in a low cross from the left edge of the area towards Anco Jansen. The 23 year-old winger one-timed his shot in the air, and Wouter van der Steen could only get a fingertip on the ball on its way into the net.

Helmond did equalize eight minutes before the break when Emrullah Guvenc cleaned up an initially blocked shot from Davy Brouwers.

Kazlauskas was subbed out at halftime in favor of Mees Siers due to reported flu symptoms, and the new player showed his worth in setting up Helmond's go ahead goal with 18 minutes left on the clock.

Siers sent a high looping ball into the six-yard box, which the keeper bobbled, allowing Erik Quekel to easily tap it over the line.

Helmond were, however, forced to endure a late disappointment, as de Graafschap Santy Hulst rescued the point for his team when he slipped into the area and put away a cross from the right flank into an open net for the final 2-2.

The result drops Helmond into third place in the Eerste Divisie standings, trailing leaders Sparta Rotterdam by one point, and second-place MVV Maastricht by goal differential - although both teams do have two games in hand.

The team will be back in action on Friday evening when they make the trip to visit seventh-place Go Ahead Eagles.
