American forward Eugene Starikov has started his preseason off in fine fashion for Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg at the opening game of Marbella Cup by scoring the game winning goal for Zenit in their 2-1 victory over Bulgarian club Lokomotiv Plovdiv.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the 72nd minute, Starikov entered into the game to give the team an offensive boost off the bench.

Three minutes later he scored off a low cross from close range.

The Soviet-Ukrainian born Starikov, 22, was recently in camp with the US national team however he was not selected by US head coach Bob Bradley to dress for the friendly against Chile.

Zenit's next game at the Marbella Cup is on Saturday when they take on Polonia Warszawa.
