USMNT RATINGS VS. SCOTLAND
Donovan put on a remarkable performance
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Tuesday, May 29, 2012
The US easily defeated Scotland 5-1 and here is how the players performed on an individual basis.

Player ratings:

Starters

Tim Howard (goalkeeper) - 6 - Did not have much to do and wasn't tested. There was nothing he could do on the own goal and his distribution was satisfactory.

Fabian Johnson (left back) - 7 - While he prefers to play in the midfield, he is playing left back better than any American has done in recent history. He can both defend and move forward effectively. He is naturally right footed but you wouldn't notice that.

Carlos Bocanegra (central defense) 6.5 - The Scots did not attack well but Bocanegra was there every time they did.

Geoff Cameron (central defense) -5 - His own goal was a bit unlucky but his positional awareness needs work.

Steve Cherundolo, (right back) - 6.5 - Had a few rough moments defensively but for the most part he was as steady as always.

Landon Donovan (midfield) -9.5 - Remarkable performance from the team's all-time leading scorer. He played with a purpose and took over the game.

Jermaine Jones (midfield) -8- This was easily the best Jones has ever looked for the United States. He has never moved forward with such ease. He was a physical presence in the midfield defensively and was a threat in the final third.

Maurice Edu (midfield) - 6 - He played a solid defensive game. He was not as effective as the other starting midfielders either in creating chances or maintaining possession.

Michael Bradley (midfield) - 8.5 - His 11th minute goal was one of the finest in years for the US national team. Bradley is coming into his own as a player and is an outstanding central midfielder.

Jose Torres (midfield) 7.5 - Torres was very effective in his passing that sprung players forward. His defense was also improved from his previous US outings. He showed solid vision in how to run the attack.

Terrence Boyd (forward) 6.5 - Despite his lack of experience, he was not in awe of the situation. He was dangerous in the attack and his size and strength are real assets. It was a great performance to build off.

Substitutes

Kyle Beckerman (midfield) - 6 - Solid defensively and can transition the ball into the attack well.

Herculez Gomez (forward) -6.5 - He was important to the final goal from Jones.

Oguchi Onyewu (central defense) - 6.0 - Not much to do when he entered, but the veteran Onyewu was commanding physically.

Joe Corona (midfield) - 6 - Not much for him to do in his first ever cap but he had confidence

Edgar Castillo (left back) - NA

Brad Guzan (goalkeeper) - NA
