Duane Holmes has been nominated by the Football League for Championship Apprentice of the Year.

Holmes, 18, has been with Huddersfield Town since the Under-9 level and now currently stars for the club's U-18 and U-21 teams. Despite playing as a withdrawn midfielder, he is the leading scorer for the U-18 team.

The Georgia-born Holmes is currently in the last year of his academy contract with Huddersfield but could earn his first professional contract by the end of the season. He is yet to make his first team debut but made the bench last month in an FA Cup game against Leicester City and went as an unused substitute.

Holmes holds both American and British passports but has said that he would prefer to represent the United States internationally. He currently has yet to be called up by the United States for any youth national team.

To win the Championship's Apprentice of the Year, he will have to beat out Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dimitar Evtimar and Watford's Bernard Mensah.

The winner will be named on March 24.
