MARSCH LEADS SALZBURG TO CUP TITLE
Add the Austrian Cup to Jesse Marsch's resume

Jesse Marsch made history on Friday as he led Red Bull Salzburg to victory in the Austrian Cup Final.

The achievement, which came after a 5-0 win over Austria Lustenau, marks the first piece of silverware for the American coach since he appointed to the post of the Austrian Bundesliga team last year.

The defending league champions would have no problems against their second division opponents as they ended the first half with a 2-0 lead before adding three more in the second to cap off a comprehensive victory. Overall, it Marsch's second title as he guided the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer to the Supporters' Shield in the 2015 season.

Austria is slowly returning to club soccer after suspending its season due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has affected every corner of the world.

The Bundesliga season is scheduled to restart on June 2, and RB Salzburg may go into it with a huge advantage. On Thursday, their title rivals LSK Linz was docked points after violating pandemic rules by conducting training team practices without permission. This put Salzburg at the top of the standings, although Linz has lodged an appeal to the decision.

With 10 games left in the season, Marsch has the chance to cap it off by winning the double.
