Algeria's Madjid Bougherra will be a familiar face to many American fans
The MLS Generation Adidas team is 1-1 on its South African tour.
Patrick Nyarko has two goals, one in the win over the Orlando Pirates earlier in the week and one in the 2-1 loss to Santos on Wednesday.
Chris Pontius, a possible future Yank Abroad and US National Team member, has the only other Generation Adidas goal.
Rabid American fans will be happy to hear that the young, enigmatic Alex Nimo has had a good showing on the trip. Youth national team starlets Danny Cruz, Josh Lambo, and Peri Marosevic have also played well.
With the World Cup draw out, I thought we'd take a quick look at the Yanks Abroad teammates that the US will face when they go up against Slovenia and Algeria. We won't worry about the English because...well, because they're English and they've got a tabloid or two for that nonsense.
vs. Slovenia: Bojan Jokic (FC Sochaux, teammate of Charlie Davies), Matej Mavric (TuS Koblenz, teammate of David Yelldell)
vs. Algeria: Kamel Ghilas (Hull City, teammate of Jozy Altidore), Madjid Bougherra (Rangers, teammate of Maurice Edu and DaMarcus Beasley), Karim Matmour (Borussia Monchengladbach, teammate of Michael Bradley)
Looks like a Yank Abroad will be returning from overseas for the upcoming MLS season.
Danny Califf appears all set to move to MLS' newest expansion team, the Philadelphia Union.
Califf has spent the last 3 years in Denmark, playing for Aalborg BK and FC Midtjylland Before that, the Los Angeles Galaxy and the San Jose Earthquakes during his time with MLS.
He will be in immediate contention for "Best Hairdo in the League" upon his return, and we can only hope for "Best Facial Hair" as well.
Lastly, some key Yanks are finally getting healthy.
Defender Jay DeMerit and midfielders Maurice Edu and Jermaine Jones are all back to full training with their teams. According to reports and interviews with the trio, they each expect to make appearances with their teams sooner rather than later.
Mo and Jermaine both need to get time in some club games soon in order to get back into contention for World Cup spots under Bob Bradley.
