Gil to join the reigning MLS champs
GENERIC USER - Wednesday, February 24, 2010
Not long after the Kansas City Wizards had acquired US starlet Luis Gil had they already started working to use him as a valuable trade asset.

Yesterday, the Wizards finalized a deal that will send Luis Gil to Real Salt Lake permanently, in exchange for an international roster spot, a 2011 2nd round SuperDraft pick, and 25 percent of any transfer fee, should a club outside of MLS purchase Gil's rights in the future.

Gil, who is still only 16, was widely believed to be joining Arsenal for the upcoming year, but has decided to stay in the states and make his professional debut in MLS. Because he signed after the MLS Draft - due to some haggling and negotiating between his camp and MLS offiicials - Gil was allocated via a weighted lottery.

It is understood that MLS had made some concessions to Gil and his family in order to keep him in the states, namely a promise to have Gil play for Real Salt Lake or the Seattle Sounders for his first season. Kansas City won the lottery and elected to turn Gil into future considerations, in accordance with prior agreements between the clubs, MLS, and the Gil family.

We'll keep a close eye on the talented young prospect as he'll likely be a constant source of transfer rumors.
