LYLE MARTIN MAKES HISTORY
Martin is breaking new ground in China
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, April 26, 2010
Over the weekend Lyle Martin made history by becoming both the first American to play in the Chinese Super League and also the first American to score in the league as well.

With the match between Shaanxi Chanba and Shenzhen tied at 2-2 in the 89th minute, Martin scored for Shaanxi Chanba in the final minute of the game to lift his club to their first win of the season.

Martin, 25, is a native of Bakersfield, California. He was drafted by Chivas USA in 2007 but went on to play with the Vancouver Whitecaps of the USL instead. His most memorable moment for the club came in 2008 when he played a full 90 in the USL Championship Game as Vancouver went on to defeat Puerto Rico 2-1 for the title.

Martin now looks to continue his success on the field and represent his country well during his first seaon in the Chinese Super League.

Yanks Abroad will have an in-depth feature on Martin later this week as we look to explore his career which has now brought him to China.
