SOCHAUX DENY L'EQUIPE REPORT
Davies' comeback hopes are still alive
Sochaux have denied a report coming out of French sports daily, L'Equipe, suggesting Sochaux doctors have ruled out Charlie Davies for the World Cup this Summer.
The original article stated that Sochaux medical staff did not expect Davies to recover full fitness come June, a claim that has been rejected by club officials.
"[L'Equipe] have not spoken to our medical staff," a Sochaux spokesman confirmed to YA earlier today.
With the blogosphere a buzz, L'Equipe quickly amended the article with a quote from Sochaux medical assistant Cédric Blomme who declined to speculate, telling the newspaper "we will see how [the situation] evolves."
Davies finally returned to full training with Sochaux last Monday following eight months on the sidelines after sustaining serious injuries during a fatal car crash last October.
Last week, Sochaux president Alexandre Lacombe offered his own opinion on Davies' recovery, telling local newspaper L'Est Républicain that he did not expect the American striker to feature for Sochaux before the end of the Ligue 1 season.
Sochaux are currently in 16th place in the Ligue 1 standings, with three games remaining this season against Montpellier, Bordeaux, and Auxerre.
