Brad Guzan and Aston Villa were victorious in a relegation battle over Queens Park Rangers, while Clint Dempsey returned to action in a losing effort as Tottenham went down to Fulham.

Aston Villa 3-2 Queens Park Rangers

Brad Guzan helped Aston Villa notch a pivotal relegation battle victory over Queens Park Rangers.

The American ‘keeper went the distance and recorded five saves, while defender Eric Lichaj did not make the 18.

QPR had the better of the play in the opening minutes and were rewarded with a goal in the 23rd minute when Jermaine Jenas found the back of the net, however Gabriel Agbonlahor equalized just before the half for Villa.

Andreas Weimann scored to put Villa ahead in the 59th minute, but Andros Townsend equalized for Rangers in the 73rd minute.

In the 81st minute Villa scored the game winner when Weimann sent in a cross that was knocked in by Christian Benteke, to the delight of the home crowd.

Guzan starred for Villa throughout, especially in the first half, recording impressive saves on Christopher Samba.

The Villains are three points above the bottom three and look for another big victory next week against Liverpool.

Stoke City 0-0 West Bromwich Albion

Geoff Cameron played 90 minutes at left back in Stoke City's scoreless draw against West Bromwich Albion.

Brek Shea did not make the game day lineup for the Potters.

Stoke City's only close call in the first half came from Jonathan Walters, however his shot was deflected wide.

Injury time saw the Kenwyne Jones come close to scoring, but West Brom's Ben Foster saved the game.

The draw breaks Stoke's three game losing streak, and the point moves them up to tenth place. They take on Everton next week at Goodison Park.

Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Fulham

Clint Dempsey's Tottenham lost their third straight game, as they went down to Fulham at home this weekend.

Dempsey returned from injury as he went in for Michael Dawson after the first half. Brad Friedel dressed but did not feature for Spurs.

The only goal of the game came in the 52nd minute when Dimitar Berbatov escaped his defender and knocked home Ashkan Dejagah's cross for Fulham.

Spurs hold a four point leave above Arsenal for the final Champions League spot in the Premier League. They take on Swansea City on the road next week and look to overtake Chelsea who have a one point leave above them in the standings.

Leyton Orient 4-1 Carlisle United

Frank Simek went the distance in Carlisle United's loss to Leyton Orient.

Orient scored two first half goals, coming from Roman Vincelot in the 32nd minute and Shaun Batt in the 45th minute.

The Cumbrians made life harder on themselves as ‘keeper Mark Gillespie was received his second yellow card in the 68th minute and was called for a foul in the box. Kevin Lisbie buried the ensuing penalty kick and put the game out of reach for Orient.

Matty Robson notched one back for Carlisle, however Orient's Dean Cox knocked in an insurance goal in the 89th minute.

Carlisle is in 17th place and is nine points above the drop zone. They take on Yeovil Town next week.


Tim Howard did not feature in Everton's win over Manchester City.

Jonathan Spector was subbed out because of an ankle injury in the 4th minute of Birmingham City's win over Middlesbrough. Seb Hines did not feature for Boro.

Stuart Holden never left the bench in Bolton's loss to Ipswich Town, while Tim Ream did not make the game day roster.

Conor Doyle dressed but did not play in Derby County's win over Leicester City. Zak Whitbread never left the bench for the Foxes.

Mike Grella did not feature in Scunthorpe United's loss to Notts County.

Jon Paul Pittman did not feature in Oxford United's loss to Chesterfield.
