BRIAN SCIARETTA - Sunday, March 24, 2013
After helping lead the U.S. national team to a win over Costa Rica on Friday, Jermaine Jones will not play against Mexico on Tuesday after suffering an ankle injury.

In the first half against Costa Rica, Jones suffered an ankle injury and required stitches at halftime. He played until the 83rd minute until he was subbed out.

US Soccer also announced that there would be no replacement for Jones on the roster and that Jones will not travel with the team to Mexico.

Jones, 31, has played with the United States national team since 2010 and has been capped 28 times.

He will now return to Germany and rejoin Schalke where hope to be fit enough to play in this Saturday's game against Hoffenheim. Schalke is currently in fifth place in the Bundesliga but only slim goal differential edge separates it from fourth place Eintracht Frankfurt.
