PREVIEW: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
It looks to be a busy week for Americans south of the border, with two marquee matchups featuring Yanks on every squad.
Club America - Puebla
Damarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco Fiscal head to the now all too familiar Estadio Azteca when Puebla travels to face Club America Saturday.
Both men look set to start for La Franja as Beasley will hope to continue his great play of late. The speedy winger scored Puebla's only goal in a 2-1 defeat to Tigres last week. The result only added to the frustration of the season that so far sees them in 14th place.
For third place America, Ventura Alvarado will look to be included in the 18. While the club continues to succeed, winning 2-0 last weekend, the young defender has found minutes hard to come by featuring only once as a substitute this year.
Right now neither team reports any injuries.
Tijuana - Santos
Another great matchup sees a hot Herculez Gomez lead Santos against fellow Americans Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona at the Estadio Caliente late Saturday.
In the midweek, Gomez blasted a shot into the top corner for the only goal in a 1-0 Santos win against the Seattle Sounders in the CONCACAF Champions League. He will look to continue his goal scoring touch while young midfielder Benji Joya will hope to make the bench for the contest.
Castillo and Corona both figure to start for Xolos, while the likes of Greg Garza, Stevie Rodriguez, and Alejandro Guido remain on the outside looking in.
Tijuana is also coming off of midweek play, having traveled to Bolivia Wednesday to earn a 1-1 draw in the Copa Libertadores. After last year's championship season, the club sits in ninth place five points behind Santos who are in fourth.
Forward Oribe Peralta is out injured for Santos, while Tijuana reports no injuries.
U.N.A.L Tigres - Leon
Jose Torres and Liga MX leaders Tigres host 15th place Leon Saturday night at the Estadio Universitario.
The Felinos are coming off of a solid 2-1 away win at Puebla last weekend. Torres continues to see extended minutes for Tigres and looks to start again this weekend. Another American on the squad, Jonathan Bornstein, seems set to make the bench for the match.
Leon continues to struggle through the 2013 campaign. Last week saw them draw 0-0 at home against Pachuca, losing two players to red cards in the process.
For Tigres, Argentine striker Emmanuel Villa faces a fitness test to see if he is able to play. Meanwhile Leon will be without Nelson Maz and Luis Montes due to their red cards last week.
Pumas Morelos - Lobos BUAP
Meanwhile in the Ascenso MX Marco Vidal and Lobos BUAP face off against Pumas Morelos Saturday.
Vidal features regularly in the midfield for the club that sits third in Mexico's second division and figures to start this weekend. Last week saw them come away with a 1-0 victory over Irapuato.
Pumas Morelos sit seventh in the standings, eight points behind Vidal and BUAP. The club drew 1-1 last week with strugglers Cruz Azul Hidalgo.
