RECAP: AS ROMA 1 - 1 SS LAZIO
Michael Bradley started for Roma in the Roman derby versus Lazio Monday night, as the Giallorossi picked up a point in their quest for Europe next season.
AS Roma 1 - 1 SS Lazio
Bradley replaced Greek midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis, who had supplanted the American in head coach Aurelio Andreazzoli's midfield; Bradley logged a full 90-minute shift.
The designated visitors in Lazio took an early lead in the 16th minute through Brazilian Hernanes. The midfielder collected a long ball on the right flank, cut inside and connected on a powerful left-footed shot that left Roma keeper Maarten Stekelenburg absolutely helpless.
Roma finally showed a flash in front of Lazio's goal right before the break when Francesco Totti struck his shot soundly from the top of the box, only to see Lazio keeper Federico Marchetti do well to to punch it around his post.
Just three minutes of the second 45 had elapsed when Roma defender Marquinhos was adjudged to handle the ball in the box. The goal scorer Hernanes stepped up to take the spot kick, but blasted it wide of the mark, wasting a golden opportunity to put the game away.
Hernanes was in the middle of the action again seven minutes later. This time the Lazio man brought down Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic in the box with a mistimed tackle. Roma captain Totti took his team's penalty and made no mistake to tie things up.
Roma should have taken all three points, but Erik Lamela missed an absolute sitter as he inexplicably drove his header from a solitary yard out over the bar in the 79th minute.
With the point the Giallorossi are in seventh place, two back of Lazio. Bradley and Roma travel to Turin on Sunday to take on Torino.
