RECAP: WEEKEND ISRAELI ACTION
Bryan Gerzicich returned to the Ironi Kiryat Shmona lineup as they downed Ironi Ramat HaSharon on Saturday.
Ironi Kiryat Shmona 1-0 Ironi Ramat HaSharon
Gerzicich played 90 minutes for the Blue Lions, who picked up their first win of the 2012-13 playoffs. The defending Israeli champions got a 60 minute goal from Osei Mawuli. A scrum in front of the net let to a chaotic situation and the Ghanaian was able to put the ball in for the win.
Kiryat Shmona remain in fourth place with 47 points, trailing Hapoel Tel Aviv by five points. Their next league match, on April 19th, sees them travel to Tel Aviv where they can gain precious ground on their rivals.
Ramat HaSharon has not won in the playoffs this season and was again held scoreless. Maccabi Tel Aviv has a commanding 10 point advantage over Maccabi Haifa with just four matches left.
Kiryat Shmona will focus on the State Cup this week, in a tough matchup with Hapoel Haifa in one of the semifinals on Wednesday. Winning the Cup would certainly alleviate some of the pressure felt after the Blue Lions won their first league title in history last season.
Leonard Krupnik did not play as Maccabi Netanya drew Hapoel Ramat Gan 0-0.
Ryan Adeleye and Hapoel Ashkelon beat Sektzia Nes Tziona 1-0.
