PREVIEW: WEEKEND SPANISH ACTION
Carlos Bocanegra and Racing Santander look to get back into the win column when they face Villareal on Sunday.
Racing Santander - Villareal
Bocanegra and Santander are coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss at home to Girona, which saw them move back into the relegation zone. The Highlander's are currently in 20th place with 35 points and tied with Hércules and Huesca. With a win this weekend, they could potentially move up into a tie for 17th place, where they would once again be safe from dropping into Segunda B.
Villareal, on the other hand, are fighting for a promotion spot to move back into La Liga's first divison and currently sit in fourth place with 58 points. The Yellow Submarine are lead by veteran midfielder Marcos Senna and Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche, who leads the team with nine goals.
Santander will have to do without two starting defender's this weekend; Marti Crespí, who suffered a sprained ankle this week in training and Francis, who is serving a one match suspension due to yellow card accumulation. They're also without Gonzalo Herrero and Álex Goikoetxea with long-term injuries.
Villareal will be without midfielder Javier Farinós, who had surgery to repair an Achilles injury this week. Additionally, they'll be without Mellborg due to tendonitis, Jonathan Pereira with two broken ribs and Hernan Perez, who is recovering from hip surgery. Mexican midfielder Javier Aquino is questionable due to sprained left ankle.
Oguchi Onyewu and fifth place Málaga face Valencia on Saturday night.
