Tottenham Hotspur announced Saturday that the team has reached an agreement to sell Clint Dempsey to Major League Soccer and will join the Seattle Sounders.

Dempsey, 30, returns to MLS after over six years in England playing in the Premier League with Spurs and Fulham.

"We have reached agreement with Major League Soccer for the transfer of Clint Dempsey." A Tottenham spokesman e-mailed YA.

The deal is expected to be for four years.

The United States captain leaves White Hart Lane after one season that saw him score seven goals in 29 Premier League games.

Before Tottenham he spent five and a half years at Fulham, scoring 50 league goals throughout his tenure at Craven Cottage.

The Texan returns to the league he came on to the scene in, spending three seasons from 2004-2006 with the New England Revolution.
