PREVIEW: ANDERLECHT - GENT
The Belgian champions return home this weekend as they take on the Buffaloes of KAA Gent in Pro League action.
Week three in the Belgian top division kicks off Friday evening with the KV Kortrijk vs. Sporting Lokeren game, but Anderlecht will have to wait until Sunday afternoon before they hit the field. Being the league's marquee team, this will be their third non-Saturday kick-off. They will not play a Saturday game until the last day of August.
Having played with protective head gear last weekend after sustaining a torn ear in a clash with Loreren's Jordan Remacle the week before, Sacha Kljestan will retain his central midfield position for les Mauves. More good news for the boys in purple is that Cheikhou Kouyaté returns to the lineup, having served his two game suspension for a red card that he picked up at the end of last season.
Spanish teen Federico Vico is hoping to make his debut after just joining the team, having competed in the U19 European Championships in Lithuania. Ronald Vargas is still recovering from his recent surgery however, so will not take part.
The Gent team is fully healthy, thus reporting no absentees through injuries for this upcoming clash. The only bruise on the team could be the ego of their striker Ilombe Mboyo. The Belgian had been waiting on a move away from Gent and thought that he was on his way to West Ham United after Anderlecht gave up on acquiring his services. Based on the fact that the Democratic Republic of Congo-born front man was involved in a gang rape of a 14 year old girl ten years ago and did a short sentence, The West Ham fans let it be known that they did not want such a person representing their team.
Last weekend Anderlecht destroyed lowly Cercle Brugge by a 4-0 score line, while Gent beat Mechelen 2-1 on the road.
