PREVIEW: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
DaMarcus Beasley, Michael Orozco and Puebla headline the weekend as they face league leader's Veracruz in a busy weekend of Liga MX.
Puebla - Veracruz
Beasley and Orozco welcome Liga MX leader's Veracruz to Estadio Cuauhtémoc on Sunday afternoon.
Beasley played the second half in a 4-2 loss at Chiapas last week while Orozco started and went the full 90 minutes. Puebla are off to a slow start in the 2013 Apertura and will be looking for their first win of the season.
Additionally, they were defeated by second division Altamira 2-0 in Copa MX midweek. Neither American made the 18 in what was mostly a reserve team La Franja.
Adrian Ruelas has not seen any first team action yet for Veracruz. The Red Shark's are lead by Ángel Reyna, who already has seven goals in four matches, already two more than he had all of last season with Pachuca. They may be without Panamanian striker Luis Tejada, who is recovering from injury and hasn't played since July 27th.
Puebla has not announced any injuries and rested their starters during the Copa MX match on Wednesday.
Club Tijuana - Pumas
Club Tijuana welcome 17th place Pumas to northwestern Mexico on Friday night as the Xolos look to bounce back after last week's 2-1 loss at Morelia in Liga MX play.
Midweek, the Xolos opened their 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League group play with a scoreless draw at El Salvador's Firpo, which saw Paul Arriola make his first professional start. Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona also started. Gregory Garza made the bench against Firpo.
Garza has started every match in Liga MX play and will likely get the nod Friday evening at the Estadio Caliente.
Pumas are still looking for their first win this season and only scored one goal in five matches in all competitions. They have not reported any injuries ahead of Friday's match.
The Xolos may be without Argentine striker Dario Benedetto, who suffered a muscle strain in last week's match and did not travel to El Salvador for Tuesday's match. US striker Herculez Gomez is also recovering from a knee injury and is not available.
Tigres - Monterrey
Jose Torres and Tigres host Alonso Hernández and Monterrey on Saturday night at the Estadio Univiersitario de Nuevo León. The local rivals face off in what is usually a hotly contested affair, both on and off the field.
Torres played 89 minutes in last week's 2-0 win over Pumas, their first of the season. Jonathan Bornstein played in Tigres' scoreless Copa MX draw on Wednesday with Cruz Azul Hidalgo but has not made any Liga MX roster's yet.
Hernández has made two appearances for Monterrey this season, once each in Liga MX and Copa MX play. The El Paso native started in Monterrey's 1-1 draw with Correcaminos.
UANL was impressive at Pumas two last week after starting the season with three consecutive losses and will look to continue their winning ways.
Monterrey has four straight draws in all competitions and three straight in Liga MX matches and will be looking for their first win over their biggest rivals. They're lead by veteran Chilean striker Humberto Suazo, who has one goal so far this season and has scored 106 times in his long career with the Rayados.
The Clásico will begin Saturday night at 8pm.
Ventura Alvarado and first place Necaxa host Atlético San Luis on Friday night.
Benji Joya, Daniel Cuevas and Santos Laguna visit Toluca on Sunday afternoon.
