RECAP: ANDERLECHT 4 - 1 GENT
Anderlecht played like the champions they are with a 4-1 destruction of KAA Gent on Sunday afternoon with Sacha Kljestan registering his first goal of the season in Belgian Pro League action.
The Buffaloes of Gent were meant to be a tough challenge for les Mauves but with goals from Kljestan, Dennis Praet, Massimo Bruno and Frank Acheampong lighting up the score board, it was more of a walk through the (Astrid) Parc on this Sunday afternoon.
Gent did in fact start off as the aggressors and had a couple of chances with the best one by Renato Neto where he should have scored with a fierce header but the 21-year-old Brazilian sent it inches over the crossbar. With a third of the game in the books, Anderlecht scored the first goal of the game and it was the California boy with the assist from a free kick going to Praet. To make things worse, or better, depending on which team you were supporting; Praet doubled the score four minutes later.
Cheikhou Kouyaté was back in the center of defense for Anderlecht due to a red card suspension from last season and the Dakar born Senegalese international wasted no time in collecting his first yellow card just before the half time whistle.
Just a trio of minutes after the restart you couldn't blame the visitor's for starting the team bus for the ride home because the game was pretty much over when the Belgian youngster Massimo Bruno rippled the net. This was followed by 19-year-old Ghanian, Frank Acheampong's first of the season in the 78th minute.
It would have been a perfect game for the Champions except for the fact that Gent's Danish striker, Nicklas Pedersen netted a consolation goal for his team, thereby stealing away Silvio Proto's clean sheet in the 89th minute.
Although the boys from Brussels have righted their ship after a shock loss to Lokeren in the season debut, Oguchi Onyewu's old team, Standard Liege, has not dropped a point yet and three other top of the standings teams are yet to register a loss, leaving les Mauves in the fifth spot in the league.
