Freddy Adu enjoyed a rare 25 minutes of action, helping Bahia to a win against Portuguesa in their Copa Sudamericana debut.

Portuguesa 1-2 Bahia

After a run of four consecutive winless games, Bahia broke out of their slump with a last minute win on the road against their fellow Brazilians in the opening round of the continental competition.

Bahia took a lead in the 40th minute through Wallyson, only for the hosts to tie the game in the 59th with a well-worked goal by Carlos Alberto.

Cristovao Borges introduced Adu for Anderson Talisca in the 65th minute, and the US international floated between a wide right position and the center of midfield.

Adu's shift was largely unremarkable, connecting with several conservative touches and passes but missing on his more daring moves.

One minute into stoppage time an Obina header finally handed Bahia the winner they deserved after proving the superior team throughout the game.

Bahia return to league action to take on last place Nautico at home in the Arena Fonte Nova on Sunday 8/25.
