MEXICO IN PURSUIT OF GIL
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Wednesday, September 18, 2013
The Mexican national team has recently made strong inquiries into Real Salt Lake's American midfielder Luis Gil.

According to sources, the interest from Mexico is not new, but it has intensified in recent weeks and months. The source also said that Gil is unlikely to jump in the near future and that he wants to remain part of the U.S setup.

Gil, 19, has long been a veteran of U.S youth national teams and has been an integral part of the 2009 U-17 World Cup team and the 2013 U-20 World Cup team. He is also among the most professionally experienced American teenagers, with 84 appearances for Real Salt Lake. This season he has five goals in 25 appearances, including 20 starts.

For Gil to play for Mexico, it would requiring him making a one-time switch, since he has played for the U.S in official youth competitions.

Gil is a native of California but holds a Mexican passport through his father.
