ONYEWU SIGNS WITH QPR
After a rocky season in Spain with Malaga where he struggled to find playing time, American defender Oguchi Onyewu has signed with Queens Park Rangers of the English Championship.
The 31 year old defender has been training with the Championship club in recent weeks but the deal only became official on Wednesday. The club declined to comment on the length of the contract but noted it is a free transfer.
"He has signed with QPR after training extensively with the club," a source close to the deal told YA.
The London based club currently sits in second place in the Championship just two points behind Burnley. It will be Onyewu's second time with an English club after he was on loan briefly with Newcastle in 2007.
Onyewu has been capped 68 times for the United States and has appeared in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. Playing time, however, has been difficult to come by in recent years due to injuries. He surprisingly made an appearance this summer at the Gold Cup but has not played in World Cup qualifying during the Hexagonal stage.
