US Soccer today announced that Jurgen Klinsmann has signed a four year extension to coach the U.S national team and will also assume the role of the federation's Technical Director.

Klinsmann has been head coach of the U.S national team since August 3, 2011 and since then has helped guide the team through World Cup qualification and impressive friendly wins over Italy, Germany, and Bosnia. The U.S team is now ranked 17th in the FIFA World Rankings.

The move is a unique move for U.S Soccer to extend a national team coach's contract before the World Cup. In previous cycles, Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley only had their contracts extended after successful World Cups.

The contract ensures that Klinsmann will maintain continuity and have a powerful influence on the overall direction of the program.
