JOHNSON TO JOIN MONCHENGLADBACH
The rumors of the move had gained strength in recent weeks but on Monday it became official when Borussia Monchengladbach announced that Fabian Johnson will join the club at the end of the season.
Johnson, 26, was currently in the last year of his contract with Hoffenheim and the club announced the U.S. international would leave at the end of the season. Borussia Monchengladbach will be his fourth club as a professional. He made his debut with 1860 Munich in 2006 as a teenager.
Johnson will join Monchengladbach this summer and the deal is good through 2018.
From 2009-2011 he played for Wolfsburg but only earned limited minutes before he returned to being a starter when he joined Hoffenheim in 2011. Now at Monchengladbach he will look to make a move to a club with the ability to contend for European competitions.
"Fabian Johnson is a very interesting player who can play attacking or defensive roles on either flank. He comes on a free transfer and we're delighted he's opted to join us," Borussian Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl said.
Borussia Monchengladbach currently sits in sixth place in the Bundesliga which would qualify it for the Europa League next season. Johnson recently played a full 90 minutes against Monchengladbach on Saturday and earned a penalty which would result in the equalizer in a 2-2 draw.
