JOHANNSSON RETURNS TO TRAINING

After undergoing two off-season surgeries, U.S. national team forward Aron Johannsson has finally returned to training with AZ Alkmaar.

Johannsson, 23, last played a match at the World Cup when he replaced Jozy Altidore in the first half of a 2-1 win over Ghana in the opening game. Following the tournament, he had an ankle surgery followed by a groin procedure.

The Alabama-born, Icelandic raised forward has scored 20 goals in 37 Eredivisie matches for AZ which he joined in January 2013. Ever since making his decision to play for the United States internationally in 2013, he has scored two goals in nine apperances.

He aims to return to the field for AZ in October. After a difficult start, AZ has won three of its last four games and sits in sixth place in the Eredivisie.
