DANISH CUP FIRST ROUND DRAW
DAVID SMITH - Monday, June 27, 2016
The first round for the Danish Cup was set on Friday, giving several American playing for teams below the top division their first opponents on the long road to the final in May, 2017.

The first-round of the competition welcomes all teams in the second tier and below, with the collection of 14 teams in the Superliga entering in the second and third rounds.

Babajide Ogunbiyi was unable to prevent Hobro IK from being relegated from the Superliga to the First Division after joining the team last winter, and therefore will be with his team when they visit fourth-tier Ringkøbing IF on Wednesday, August 10.

Hobro was eliminated in the third round last season, and will hope to have little trouble beating the team currently competing two divisions below their own standing.

Also on the same day, former Everton youth player Anton Peterlin and his current team, the Copenhagen-based B93, will host fourth-tier AB Tårnby in their home of Østerbro Stadion.

B93, who play in the third level, have won the competition once in their history, back in 1982. They have had more meager success in recent years, most recently being eliminated in the second round in the previous edition.

Brønshøj team captain Jamil Fearrington will lead his team into battle against seventh-tier Frederiksværk FK on Tuesday, August 9. Brønshøj barely missed promotion from the third to the second level last season, and will be confident of beating their significantly lower-division opposition.

Should Marienlyst midfielder Jonathan Dolezal return to the third-tier club for the upcoming season, he will join the team for their first-round trip to Aarslev BK on August 9.

First Division club Næstved BK, which features American-born forward Sammy Adjei, has a bye to the second round due to the insolvency of FC Vestsjælland leaving the draw one team short.

Clubs in the top-flight Superliga will not enter the competition until the later rounds, meaning that former Portland Timbers midfielder George Fochive will have to wait until until August to find out who Viborg FF's second round opponent will be.

Similarly, just-promoted AC Horsens, who feature defensive midfielder Conor O'Brien, will also enter in the second round.
