OGUNBIYI AND HOBRO FALL IN OPENER
Conor O'Brien and Horsens managed to draw against his former team while Babajide Ogunbiyi and Hobro opened their First Division campaign with a heavy defeat at Roskilde.
AC Horsens 1 - 1 SønderjyskE
An early goal and the aftermath of their opponents' gruelling European tie was not enough for AC Horsens to earn a win against Conor O'Brien's former team SønderjyskE.
Horsens had an advantage in the early going, playing just three days after SønderjyskE were forced to endure a tough, albeit successful 120 minutes against Norwegians Strømsgodset in Europa League on Friday.
This was evident after 23 minutes when a free kick from the right side by Kim Aabech was poorly covered by the defense just beyond the far post, with Bubacarr Sanneh taking control and putting the Yellow Danger ahead by the 1-0 score.
The visitors needed only 15 minutes to pull even, guaranteeing that the Horsens players will spend extra hours on set piece defense drills in the coming weeks. Johan Absalonsen launched a long free kick into the danger zone from the right flank, and Marc Dal Hende was left unprotected as he snuck in behind the line of defenders to easily poke the ball over the line for the equalizer.
With two draws in their first two games, Horsens reside in seventh place, and will face a tough visit to still-perfect second-place Brøndby on Sunday.
FC Roskilde 3 - 1 Hobro IK
Hobro's opening game of the new season was one to forget, as the team fell in a heavy loss at Roskilde that featured a remarkable four penalty attempts.
Babajide Ogunbiyi started in central defense for Hobro, committing one penalty while drawing another and also picking up a yellow card.
Roskilde was quick to jump to the lead when Mikkel Nøhr weaved in behind the defense within the first minute to score the opener. They could have doubled the lead at the half-hour mark when Ogunbiyi was judged to have fouled Valon Ljuti in the area, however Bajram Fetai missed the resulting spot kick.
The American was at the center of Hobro's equalizer at the hour mark, being pulled down on a corner, with Mayron George converting from the spot.
That would be the last positive moment for the visitors, however, with Bajram Fetai successfully converting two more penalties in the 72nd and 92nd minutes to secure the 3-1 victory to the hosts.
The latter penalty will be especially painful for Hobro going forward, as the referee judged team captain Jonas Brix-Damborg's hand ball to be worthy of a red card, meaning that he will miss the following week's game.
The heavy loss leaves Hobro dead-last in the division after one game, and they will try to bounce back when they host Helsingør on Sunday.
George Fochive did not make it off of Viborg's bench on Friday during their 2-1 road loss at AGF Aarhus.
Forward Sammy Adjei was not in uniform for Naestved BK as they opened the new 1st Division season with a 1-0 home loss to Nykøbing.
New Vejle signing Mike Lansing was on the team's bench as their backup keeper in their 1-1 season-opening home draw with Fremad Amager.
