RECAP: HERTHA, BVB GAME ENDS IN TIE
The big game between Christian Pulisic's Borussia Dortmund and John Brooks' Hertha Berlin over the weekend ended with both teams sharing the points.
Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Hertha Berlin
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed and earlier penalty, but redeemed himself by scoring the equalizer late in the second half to ensure that Borussia Dortmund shared the points with Hertha Berlin at Signal Iduna Park.
Both teams were looking to close the gap on league leaders Bayern Munich as both hope to dethrone the reigning Bundesliga champions.
John Brooks made his return to Hertha's starting lineup, while Christian Pulisic was in the starting eleven for Dortmund as head coach Thomas Tuchel five changes to his team due to injuries to key players.
After being shutout by Bayer Leverkusen two weeks ago, BVB were looking to return to their free scoring ways. They had the lion's share of possession and looked dangerous in the attack, but the capital team did well to hold them off.
Alexander Esswein nearly opened the scoring for Hertha with two efforts from close range.
The visitors would eventually break the deadlock six minutes into the second half through Valentin Stocker. Vedad Ibisevic supplied the through ball that opened up Dortmund's defense and the Swiss international put his shot past goalkeeper Roman Burki at the near post.
Dortmund would receive a lifeline in the 75th minute when the referee awarded them a penalty when it was judged that Genki Haraguchi handled the ball in the area off a shot from Shinji Kagawa. Aubameyang would step up to take the penalty, but it was saved by Hertha goalkeeper Rune Jarstein.
The home side would eventually find the equalizer nine minutes from time when Ousmane Dembele's cross from the left found the Gabon international in the area and he slid in to put the ball in the goal.
Things would get interesting in the 84th minute when Dortmund's Emre Mor was shown a red card for pushing Sebastian Langkamp. Hertha would not have the advantage for long as Stocker received his marching orders around stoppage time.
Dortmund have dropped down to fifth place in the standings with 13 points, while Hertha fell to fourth place with 14 points.
Eintracht Frankfurt 2-2 Bayern Munich
Marco Fabian scored the equalizer for Eintracht Frankfurt, even with a man down, as they denied Bayern Munich from taking all three points at the Commerzbank-Arena.
Timmy Chandler started for the Frankfurt and notched the game-tying assist, while Julian Green, coming off a good couple of games with the United States during the international break, watch all of the action from the Bayern bench.
Arjen Robben would open the scoring in the 10th minute when he collected a pass from teammate David Alaba before running into the area and blasting his effort past Frankfurt goalkeeper Lucas Hradecky.
The home side nearly leveled the score later on, but Chandler's volley bounced off the post.
Frankfurt continued to attack and finally scored the equalizer two minutes before halftime when Szabolcs Huszti's shot got past Manuel Neuer.
Joshua Kimmich would put the reigning champions back in the lead in the 62nd minute when he put away his goal from a short corner kick.
Things would go bad for Frankfurt in the 65th minute when their goal scorer, Huszti, was sent off for getting a second yellow card.
However, that did not deter the host as they leveled the score again in the 78th minute. Fabian would somehow redirect Chandler's cross with his chest into the goal, leaving Bayern frustrated as they have tied their second consecutive game.
Frankfurt remain in eighth place in the standings with 11 points.
