RECAP: UCL MATCH DAY 6
Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund fought back to earn the tie against Real Madrid to finish atop of Group F in the final group games of the Champions League.
Real Madrid 2-2 Borussia Dortmund
Marco Reus' game-tying goal sealed BVB's comeback over the reigning Champions League winners in an exciting game at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Christian Pulisic was in the starting lineup for Dortmund and played 61 minutes.
Both teams came out with strong lineups as either could have finished winners of the group and earn home field advantage in the first leg of the round of 16 game next year.
Real Madrid opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Karim Benzema was able to sweep in Dani Carvajal's low cross past Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller.
Dortmund were intent on pushing the game and came close to scoring on a few occasions. Pulisic had one of the opportunities, but his shot was too weak, giving Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas no trouble at all to save.
The Frenchman would double the host's lead eight minutes into the second half when he headed in a cross from James Rodriguez.
It look like los Blancos were going to finish the game atop of the group, but BVB finally found their scoring touch.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang cut the deficit in the 60th minute when captain Marcel Schmelzer got behind the defense unnoticed to deliver a cross to the Gabon international, who easily tapped the ball in from close range.
Aubameyang would turn provider for the equalizer two minutes from stoppage time when his low cross into the area found Reus, who slid to redirect the ball towards the goal. Rues' goal set a Champions League record for most goals by a team as BVB have scored 21 so far in the competition.
The tie guaranteed Dortmund the top spot in Group F with 14 points. They will know on Monday which team they will face in the round of 16.
Fabian Johnson came on in the second half for Borussia Mönchengladbach, but it did not matter as Barcelona went on to earn a 4-0 win at Camp Nou. The Foals finished third in Group C which guarantees them a place in the next stage of the Europa League.
