ARIYIBI JOINS NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Gboly Ariyibi has moved from English League One team Chesterfield to Nottingham Forest, the English Championship team confirmed on transfer deadline day.
The winger has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Forest. Chesterfield had no choice but to sell him as his contract was going to expire this summer.
Ariyibi, who was born in Arlington, Virginia, said his move from Chesterfield was a sad day, but he is now looking forward to the challenge of playing with his new team at the next level.
"I've had some good memories here and met some great people. The fans have been great," said Ariyibi in an interview with the Nottingham Post. "I'm obviously delighted with the news. Forest are a big club, it's a great step in my career, and anyone in my position, I'm sure would have done the same thing."
The US Under-23 started his career at Southampton as a youth player, but was eventually released by the team in 2013. He would them move on to Leeds United, where he signed a short-term contract before being released in May 2014.
From there Ariyibi moved on to Chesterfield, signing a one-year contract in August 2014. He would go on to appear in 96 games for the team and score four goals.
Ariyibi will have work cut out for him as he and fellow American Eric Lichaj will try to keep Forest out of the relegation zone in the Championship as they currently sit in 19th place with 33 points.
The winger will have first chance to make an impression when Forest welcome Aston Villa to the City Ground this weekend.
