RECAP: CHAMPIONSHIP PROMOTION FINAL
KENYA BROWN - Monday, May 29, 2017
David Wagner completed his fairy tale on Monday as he guided Huddersfield Town to the Premier League following a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Danny Williams and Reading at Wembley Stadium.

The win not only guarantees the Terriers passage to the English top flight, but they also pocket an estimated $220 million.

It was a quiet 90 minutes as both teams did not take too many chances at goal. Huddersfield had the best of the few early in the first half when Izzy Brown missed a close range effort. The same action would continue in two halves of extra time, leaving both teams to settle the game with penalties.

The teams put away their opening penalties - Williams scored the second for Reading - until Huddersfield defender Michael Hefele stepped up and had his effort saved by Reading goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi.

Reading had the advantage and could have put themselves is position to win the shootout until Liam Moore took his chance and clipped the bar, allowing Huddersfield back into the game.

Jordan Obita followed after a conversion from Aaron Mooy in hopes of keeping the score level, but goalkeeper Daniel Ward would guess right and make the save on his attempt.

It was then left to Huddersfield defender Christopher Schindler to put away the game-winning penalty and he was successful as the West Yorkshire team booked their place in the Premier League for the 2017-2018 season.

It has been an extraordinary turnaround for Huddersfield - a team that was in dire financial straits not that long ago and close to relegation last season. Now, they will be competing against the elite teams in England.

As for Reading, it will be another season down in the Championship as they hope they can make another promotion push. There will also be questions about the future of Danny Williams. Will he remain with the Royals for another season or seek a move to a Premier League team in the summer transfer window?
