MORALES MOVES TO DUSSELDORF
Alfredo Morales is heading back to the Bundesliga as it was announced that the midfielder has signed a deal with newly-promoted team Fortuna Dusseldorf.
The 28-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the North Rhine-Westphalia-based that recently won the 2. Bundesliga crown.
Morales spent the past five seasons with FC Ingolstadt, playing in 142 games. In the 2014-2015 season, he played a big role in helping the Bavarian team earn promotion to the Bundesliga as they went on to win the second division crown. After being relegated following the 2016-2017 season, he continued to be a key player with the team, playing in 27 games and scoring four goals as they finished in ninth place.
Ingolstadt is not the only team the Berlin-born Peruvian-American has played for as he previously suited up for Hertha Berlin for which he played in a handful of games.
As a newly-promoted team, Dusseldorf will want to avoid going back down a division after one season and they feel that the signing of an experienced player such as Morales could provide them a good chance of staying up.
"We have signed an experienced Bundesliga player in Alfredo Morales. He's played in more than 150 games in the top two divisions. He's shown there he has quality for the Bundesliga. With his mentality he can help us from day one," said Dusseldorf head coach Friedhelm Funkel.
Morales will join up with fellow American Jerome Kiesewetter as Dusseldorf make their return to the top flight next season.
