RECAP: WEEKEND LIGA MX ACTION
Ventura Alvarado and Necaxa wound up sharing the points with Toluca as the team looks to make a move at solidifying their place in the playoff spots.
Necaxa 1-1 Toluca
Rodrigo Contreras' second-half goal canceled a strike from Emmanuel Gigliotti as Necaxa and Toluca played to a tie at Estadio Victoria de Aguascalientes.
Ventura Alvarado started the game for Necaxa, getting booked in the 44th minute, and played the entire game.
With seven games now left in the Clausura, teams will be in a fight to the end to claim one of the eight spots in Liguilla, and Necaxa will sure be up for the challenge.
Toluca would have the first good opportunity on the night when Gigliotti tested Necaxa goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez from long range, forcing him to tip the ball over the bar.
The visitors then thought they had open the scoring minutes later when Pablo Barrientos slotted home from point-blank range. However, replays showed that he handled the ball prior to scoring, thus ruling it out.
The first half ended scoreless, but Toluca would finally break the deadlock in the 48th minute when Gigliotti steered home a low cross from Santiago Garcia.
Now down a goal, it lit a fire under Necaxa as they started to press for the equalizer.
And they were rewarded in the 67th minute when Contreras headed in a cross from Angel Sepulveda.
Both teams pressed for the game-winner, but they ended up settling for the tie in the end.
Necaxa sits in seventh place in the standings with 15 points.
