RECAP: WEEKEND DUTCH ACTION
Both Sergino Dest and Desevio Payne saw action for their respective teams as Ajax utilized a second-half surge to come away with a comfortable win over FC Emmen Dutch Eredivisie action.
Ajax 5-0 FC Emmen
Emmen was no match for Ajax as the defending Eredivisie champions put on a dominant display to secure their first win of the season at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Sergino Dest came off the bench for the Amsterdamers to play 36 minutes, while Payne, who had been going through injury issues, made his first appearance for his new team to play the final nine minutes of the game.
Ajax were in control from the start and opened the scoring three minutes before the half-hour mark when Hakim Ziyech's threaded a pass into the area for Dusan Tadic, who then teed up Donny van de Beek to steer the ball past Emmen goalkeeper Dennis Telgenkamp.
The host were in cruise control from then on as they doubled their lead just minutes into the second half as van de Beek turned provider to set up Ziyech for the goal.
Tadic added a third for Ajax in the 66th minute was in the right place to pounce on the ball and tap itinto the goal after it came crashing off the post.
Emmen had wished the referee blew the whistle to end the game, but Ajax had plenty more in the tank as they scored a fourth in the 80th minute. The excellent passing play amongst the seem allowed Klaas Jan Huntelaar bury the ball in the back of the net.
Huntelaar would go on to score his second goal of the day eight minutes later as Ajax cruised on to the victory.
Haji Wright started for VVV Venlo and played 84 minutes as they fell to Sparta Rotterdam in 4-1 loss.
