KENYA BROWN - Tuesday, December 31, 2019
US national team head coach Gregg Berhalter unveiled his 25-man roster for the annual January Camp scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, the host of the 2022 World Cup.

The group is comprised predominately of MLS players as the camp falls outside of the FIFA international calendar. It also a young team as a majority of them are in contention for a spot with the Under-23 team that will compete for a place in the Olympic qualifiers.

Two players coming into the camp from abroad are Ulysses Llanez from Wolfsburg's U-19 team in Germany and Christian Cappis, whose Danish Superliga team, Hobro, are currently on winter break.

Jesus Ferreira will participate in his first camp with the national team after recently acquiring his US citizenship. The FC Dallas forward finished the MLS season with eight goals in 33 appearances.

The camp will not be lacking veterans in the setup as the likes of Bill Hamid, Aaron Long, Gyasi Zardes, Paul Arriola, Reggie Cannon, Cristian Roldan, and Sebastian Lletget will fly along with the group to the Middle East.

With qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2022 World Cup around the corner, Berhalter and his staff will be trying to get the players well-prepared.

"At the start of an exciting year, this is a great opportunity to continue our process and build on the foundation established in the last 12 months. At the same, there are a number of players getting their first exposure to the senior national team who will be provided the platform to make a positive impression," said Berhalter in a statement on the US Soccer website.

The camp will run from Jan. 5-25 at the Aspire Academy in Doha. They will then return stateside for their first international friendly of the year when they face Costa Rica on Feb. 1 in Carson, California.
