RECAP: WEEKEND DUTCH ACTION
Only Sebastian Soto saw significant minutes but it was in a losing effort in weekend Dutch soccer action.
De Graafschap 2 - 0 Telstar
Sebastian Soto put in a full shift, being substituted in the 91st minute but was unable to help Telstar get anything out of their trip to Doetinchem as they were shut out by De Graafschap, ending their two-game win streak. All of the scoring was done in the first half by the hosts with goals from Joey and Ralf Seuntjens.
Telstar had the first shot at goal in the early minutes of the game when Gyliano van Velzen set up YaŽl Liesdek, only to see him head wide of the mark. Nine minutes later, however, when the clock struck 15 minutes, Jasper Schendelaar was picking the ball out of the back of his own net after Konings first goal of the season.
Not 10 minutes after that it could have been all square when again van Velzen set up a teammate, this time Soto, who nodded it to Rashaan Fernandes. The frontman however has a good look at the goal but instead shoots it high, thus missing the target. Telstar was in the game and created chances but five minutes before halftime when they were unable to clear their area, Seuntjens took advantage and bagged himself the goal that would be more than enough for the victory.
Sitting in eighth place, Soto and Telstar will next travel to Oss to take on TOP in their next encounter.
Chris Gloster didn't make the team sheet when Helmond Sport went to take on Ajax II. The contest ended in a 2-2 score. Up next for the Amsterdammers is a short trip to Utrecht over the weekend.
Desevio Payne didn't make the team sheet when Emmen hosted Twente and were destroyed by a score of 4-1. With just five points after 15 games, they remain rooted to last place in the Eredivisie standings and will face Heracles next time out as they try to dig themselves out of the relegation hole.
Luca de la Torre made an appearance off the bench, coming on for Heracles in the 59th minute with his team down a goal. Things only got worse when the second goal went in seven minutes before full time, leaving them with the 2-0 defeat against Vitesse. They'll be at home again over the weekend and will welcome FC Emmen to town.
Ulysses Llanez started on the bench and stayed there as Heerenveen lost at home to Fortuna Sittard by a 3-1 scoreline. The loss leaves them in eighth place, just out of the play-off places. Next up however will be against RKC Waalwijk at home.
Mael Corboz was nowhere to be found when Go Ahead Eagles hosted TOP Oss on Sunday evening in Deventer. They did indeed go ahead in the 86th minute, thanks to a penalty that earned the team all the points. Currently, in seventh place, they'll look to improve on that when they host Maastrict on Friday night.
