RECAP: WEEKEND ITALIAN ACTION
Weston McKennie was on target for Juventus as his goal helped to seal the win over Bologna to close the gap a bit on leaders AC Milan.
Juventus 2-0 Bologna
It was another Man of the Match performance for Weston McKennie as goals from the American and Arthur helped Juventus to the shutout win over Bologna at the Allianz Stadium.
Weston McKennie would play the full 90 minutes as he started on the right side of a four-man midfield, showing once again that he belongs on this team as they try to track down AC Milan and retain their Serie A title.
It's been an up and down season for I Bianconeri as they have tried to find consistent form under first-year head coach Andrea Pirlo. With their win in the Italian Super Cup a few days ago, perhaps they have turned a corner which will see them push hard for the summit.
The host opened to scoring in the 15th minute when Arthur found the back of the net. Cristiano Ronaldo would attack the Bologna backline dribbling the ball towards their area before passing it to the Brazilian midfielder. Seeing that no one was near him, he decided to take a shot from distance. It took a deflection, but it didn't matter as the ball went into the goal.
Juventus hung onto their lead throughout the rest of the first half and well into the second interval as the visitors got themselves into the game with a few chances.
However, the Schalke loanee would give his team some breathing space in the 71st minute when he headed in a Juan Cuadrado corner kick. McKennie could have had a second goal minutes later when he found himself in the right place again to put a cross Ronaldo on target, but it was blocked by Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski.
Another strong outing for the American midfielder has shown once again why he deserves a place in Juventus' starting lineup.
In Serie B, Andrija Novakovich went the distance for Frosinone as they had to share the points with Reggina following a 1-1 tie.
Giussepe Barone was a spectator on the bench for promotion-chasing Salernitana as they were able to hold on for the 2-0 win over Pescara.
