ARGUEZ CALLED TO U-20 SQUAD
Hertha Berlin midfielder Bryan Arguez has been added to the US roster for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt, replacing forward Sam Garza, who tore his ACL over the weekend.
Arguez was originally left off Coach Thomas Rongen's 21-man roster after a poor performance in the qualifying tournament in Trinidad and Tobago earlier this year.
"Bryan Arguez will be joining the team," a USSF spokesperson confirmed to YA. "Sam Garza tore his ACL and meniscus over the weekend."
The former DC United prospect was a member of the U-20 team that reached the quarterfinals in Canada in 2007, but had fallen down the pecking order after a series of indifferent performances.
Arguez has shown flashes of potential in his time at Hertha Berlin, but has managed only one first team appearance. He recently went on trial with Charleroi in Belgium, but returned to Hertha after a week for undisclosed reasons.
The US U-20s kick off group play against Germany on September 26th, followed by matches against Cameroon and South Korea in Suez, Egypt.
