JOHNSON HAPPY WITH ARIS LOAN

Eddie Johnson says that he is looking forward to starting his 2010 with Greek club Aris Thessaloniki and hopes that his time there will earn him a spot on the USMNT 23 man World Cup roster.

It was announced on Thursday that Fulham would loan the striker to Aris until June 30, 2010. The Bunnell, Florida native had also previously been loaned out by the Cottagers to Cardiff City for the 2008-2009 season where he made 30 appearances for the Welsh club and scored two goals.

Johnson remained in London this fall but saw limited action at Fulham with just four appearances in total.

The loan to Aris is a big sigh of relief for Johnson who plans to make the most of his opportunity with the seven time Greek Cup champions.

"It feels great and I'm very happy," Johnson told YA shortly after arriving in Greece on Saturday. "It is nice to know that Aris wanted me and had been looking at me for a while."

The former Kansas City Wizard will be moving to a club that is currently sixth in the Greek Super League standings and boasts former Valencia and Inter Milan head coach Hector Cuper.

Johnson hopes to see plenty of playing time under Cuper in order to impress US national team head coach Bob Bradley after falling off the USMNT radar in recent years and there is no doubt that fighting for a place in South Africa next summer is definitely at the forefront of Johnson's mind.

"What is most important is that I get to play, "Johnson added. "I need games so I can put myself back on the radar to try to make the national team for the World Cup."

A rumor has also recently surfaced that the ex-FC Dallas man could be joined by Freddy Adu who was recently sent back to Benfica from fellow Portuguese club Belenenses.

Johnson was not aware of any discussion between Aris and Adu but says he would welcome the addition of the Maryland native to join him up front as part of Cuper's attack.

"I haven't heard anything about Freddy coming [to Aris], but it would be great if he did," he concluded.

Johnson and Aris resume Super League action on January 5th when they travel to Atromitos.
