PREVIEW: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
Herculez Gomez and Puebla hit the road to face Estudiantes while Jose Francisco Torres and Pachuca pay a visit to Gallos Blancos.
Estudiantes, coming off their recent loss to Pachuca will look to bounce back as they host Interliga rival Puebla at the Estadio Tres de Marzo in Guadalajara on Friday evening.
American Herculez Gomez, who saw time as a second half substitute in that encounter, will hope to get Puebla's season back on track after their recent loss to Tigres last week.
This should be an exciting match as both teams will attempt to rebound from opening week losses, while Puebla looks to exact revenge on Estudiantes for their Interliga loss in Carson, California on January 14th.
Puebla will be missing both Alejandro Acosta and Luis Enrique Muñoz who are suspended and injured respectively.
Tigres hopes to continue their early season success as they host unbeaten rivals Chivas of Guadalajara this Saturday evening at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey.
Chivas will be confident after their 3-1 opening day win against league powerhouse Toluca.
Edgar Castillo should expect the start after going the full 90 minutes in last week's 1-0 victory over Puebla. Tigres will be aided by the recent addition of ex-Chivas USA player Paulo Nagamura who began training with the squad this week.
Both Daniel Guzmán Castañeda and José Luis Real should have their full teams available for Saturday's clash.
Atlante will try to improve on their opening week draw against the Gallos Blancos as they host San Luis this Saturday evening at the Estadio Andrés Quintana Roo in Cancun.
San Luis will need a positive result after their embarrassing 5-1 loss last week to America.
Michael Orozco, the subject of transfer rumors with the Philadelphia Union, fell out of favor last season with manager Ignacio Ambríz and has yet to make the bench this season.
However, Jesus Palacios and central defender Gonzalo Piñeda were both issued red cards in last week's encounter which may present Orozco with an opportunity this week.
Rafael Márquez, Santiago Solari, and José Joel Gonzalez of Atlante are doubtful for Sunday's match.
Gallos Blancos- Pachuca
The Gallos Blancos of Querétaro will host Pachuca this Saturday at the Estadio Corregidora.
After surviving a relegation scare in the previous tournament, the Gallos Blancos started off their season with a 0-0 tie when visiting Atlante last week.
Pachuca will look to change that as they continue their strong season start after a disappointing campaign in the last tournament where they failed to qualify for the Liguilla.
Paco Torres saw the field as a second half substitute last week after Pachuca had already achieved a 3-0 lead against Estudiantes.
He will continue looking for minutes in order to impress US coach Bob Bradley. He should start as Pachuca midfielder Damián Álvarez was recently issued a three game ban following his ejection after celebrating a goal against Estudiantes.
The Gallos Blancos will be without Adrian Marcelo Romero who was ejected in last week's encounter against Atlante.
Indios of Ciudad Juarez will look to rebound from last week's 4-0 thrashing from Monterrey, as they host Santos Laguna Sunday afternoon.
Marco Vidal who was absent in last week's encounter will hope to be included in this week's squad as Indios tries to avoid a repeat of last tournament's disappointing performance.
Both squads may be without the services of several players. Felipe Baloy, of Santos will be out injured while Héctor Gimenéz, of Indios, and Antonio Olvera, of Santos, are in doubt.
