RICH FIDLER - Sunday, January 24, 2010
De Graafschap held on to their firm grip of the Jupiler League standings with two goals on either side of half-time to defeat Helmond Sport on Friday night.

American Charles Kazlauskas once again started on the right side of midfield, and played the entire 90 minutes for the losers.

The home team struck in the 15th minute to open up the scoring when Steven De Ridder's shot from inside the six-yard box smacked off the post and then the back of Helmond 'keeper Robert Van Westerop, sneaking past the goal line.

Just two minutes later Hugo Bargas got a second for the "Super Farmers" when Van Westerop charged out of his area to clear a ball. Unfortunatey for the visitors the ball fell to the feet of Bargas who lofted a ball to the far corner past the stranded Helmond goalkeeper.

Things wouldn't get any better for the visitors in the second half, just five minutes after the re-start Bargas snuck between the Helmond defense to head home past a frustrated Van Westerop.

Van Westerop's horrific day in goal continued in the 72nd minute when he grabbed second-half substitute Jhonny van Beukering's harmless header off a corner kick. The struggling goalkeeper's own momentum carried the goalkeeper in to the goal as De Graafschap notched their fourth goal of the game.

Jordy Buijs would step to the penalty area in second half stoppage time but the defender would miss wide of the goal to keep the score at four goals for the home team.

Hemond Sport will face FC Omniworld next Friday.
