RECAP: RENNES 4 - 0 GRENOBLE
Carlos Bocanegra and Rennes ran rampant on last place Grenoble in Saturday Ligue 1 action at Route de Lorient in Rennes.
Bocanegra started at left back and went the full 90 minutes in the victory over the hapless visitors from the Alps region.
The match was a sign that Bocanegra may be playing his way back into favor with head coach Frederic Antonetti after having also started the previous two matches leading up to Saturday's clash.
With their leading scorer Asamoah Gyan away at the African Cup of Nations with the Ghanian national team, Rennes were still able to find the back of the net four times.
Romain Danze kicked off the scoring in the ninth minute when he was the beneficiary of a Jimmy Briand pass in the area following a deflected cross. Danze had an easy poke into the net and Les Rouges Et Noirs were on their way.
Sylvain Marveaux scored just minutes before and after the halftime whistle to increase the margin to three.
His first strike came in the 41st minute when Briand acted as playmaker again to set up Marveaux who slotted the ball home.
Marveaux's second came in the 48th minute when Ismael Bangoura funneled a ball in allowing the midfielder to unleash a shot that was destined to stretch the twine.
Bangoura got in on the act as well with a goal in the 57th minute as Fabien Lemoine dished off to Bangoura who slid a ball just inside the right post to cap off the goal scoring festivities.
The win lifts Rennes up to eighth place in the league standings as they face leaders Bordeaux next weekend.
