Former Alta midfielder Jay Needham has elected to return to his home state of Texas by signing a three year contract with the Austin Aztex of the USL.

Needham spent the previous two seasons in Norway's 1. Division playing with Alta where he helped the northern club to its highest finish ever of sixth place in Norway's second level of professional soccer.

Several other clubs in Scandinavia expressed an interest in bringing aboard Needham, but the opportunity to play near home and in front of friends and family helped sway the midfielder's decision.

The native of Fort Worth, Texas already seems eager to help the second year franchise improve on its 5-17-8 record after agreeing to terms and officially signing his contract earlier today.

"I'm incredibly happy to become a member of the Aztex," Needham told YA. "They're a top class organization and I'm very excited to be part of their team."

The former Southern Methodist University standout is already familar with the league having spent the 2007 season with the Puerto Rico Islanders where he was named 2007 USL Rookie of the Year.
