BRIAN SCIARETTA - Tuesday, March 16, 2010
US U20 head coach Thomas Rongen announced a 20 man roster that will compete in the 2010 Dallas Cup tournament later this month.

The US will have two foreign based players in Birmingham City's midfielder Will Packwood and Tigres' striker Moises Orozco. Packwood, a veteran of the US 2009 U17 World Cup team, is having a solid season at Birmingham's academy where he is a regular with the club's U18 team and has managed to play with the reserve team on a few occasions. In Dallas both Packwood and Orozco will each be playing for their first time under Rongen.

The roster also marks a triumph for the Chivas USA Academy which has four players of its players on the roster. Defender Ian Hines-Ike and midfielders Bryan De La Fuente, Ruben Gonzalez, and Cesar Zamora will all represent the US in Dallas from the academy from the Los Angeles based club.

The defense will be lead by three players from NCAA power University of Akron. Chad Barson, Kofi Sarkodie, and Zarek Valentin will anchor coach Rongen's defense in Dallas.

This Akron trio will also later this year be widely expected to lead the Zips back to the College Cup where they fell to the University of Virginia in the national championship game in a shootout.

The most experienced U20 player on the roster is Notre Dame University midfielder Dillion Powers who was a veteran of the 2009 US U20 World Cup team.

The Fighting Irish holding midfielder was the nation's top college recruit out of high school and was the 2008-2009 Gatorade National Player of the Year.

The Dallas Cup is the premier youth tournament in country and it also marks the second official competition for the US U20 team in the 2011 cycle. Last month the US team played in the Copa Chivas in Mexico.

The US team there tied Brazil and the youth team from Mexico's club Atlas but lost to clubs Pachuca, Tigres, and Sasprissa.

In the Dallas Cup, the US has been drawn into Group C and will play their first game against Mexico on Sunday night, March 28th at Pizza Hut Park.

The following day they will play the Vancouver Whitecaps and they will finish group play on Wednesday, March 31st against the youth team from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

If the US wins Group C, they will advance to the semifinals on April 2nd and the championship game is scheduled for April 4th.
